Urban Tree Walk  Join the Department of Transportation's Certified Arborists for an Urban Tree Walk every Saturday this summer. Bring your children and a cup of coffee to learn from the experts: how trees grow, how trees react to the urban environment and what tree species are growing in your neighborhood. The goal of the Urban Tree Walk is to provide an educational experience and a chance to ask any nagging questions you may have about trees. The Urban Tree Walk will be held every Saturday from 9 to 11 am from June through August (see below for schedule). The Urban Forest Administration has 14 certified arborists on staff, seven of whom are Certified Municipal Specialists, to manage over 200,000 trees on District public space. The UFA handles over 8,000 service requests each year and looks to partner with neighborhood organizations that can help with our Tree Steward Program. The Tree Stewards agree to water a newly planted street tree for the first two years and are key to helping the next canopy be established.
